Tell me a bit about your business:
Pet Grooming is my main product.
How did your Business get started?
The previous dog groomer in Port McNeill left. I took an online course and then went to Campbell River to get some hands on learning. . A lot of what I learned was self-taught knowledge.
What is the best achievement of your business?
The #1 achievement is being able to balance family life with my business,
I also think it is a great achievement that I have such a great reputation in the community.
What kind of challenges have you encountered operating your business?
I have struggled with the bookkeeping aspect of the business. I also do not have enough time in my schedule to keep up with demand here on the North Island.
How has Community Futures Mount Waddington helped you?
NISEP was a great help to me, it assisted me with living supports while I first started my business. The marketing course that I took at North Island College taught me a lot about ways to get my name out in the community.
How has your business changed over the years?
Only operating a year.
What do you find rewarding about you business?
I am able to bring in a second income for my family
What led you to get into business?
Wanted to be able to work my own hours and be able to manage my family and my business.
Any advice you would give to potential entrepreneurs?
If you are not familiar with bookkeeping, a course could and would be helpful. Stay on top of returning phone calls, and begin to network in the community that may help you to find more business. Advertising is worth every penny that it costs, it works wonders to get your name out there.
What makes you business special and unique?
I have a way with the dogs and I make sure everyone that comes in leaves happy.
